Just Emily

I have a sister.
She is the oldest.
She graduated from USU.  She's married.
She owns a house and she has 2 kids.

Then there is a brother.
He is the only boy.
He graduated from the US Naval Academy.
He has a really good job.
He's married.
He owns a house and has a new baby.

Then there is me,
Emily.
She has a job at a hospital.

Then there is a sister
She is the baby.
She is married.
They are looking for a home to buy in Arizona.
Her husband is going to school to become and Architect.

If you were to ask anyone in my family, extended family or anyone who knows my family, that is how they would describe us kids... Sounds pretty great, huh?

I am Just Emily.

I'm Leavin...

On a Jet Plane...

Yes, It's true.
My birthday is coming up, so I treated myself,
(to quite a few things, but who's counting)
to a trip to the good ol'
Midwest aka Utah.

It's going to be fabulous.
My sista and her kids will be there
and any time with my Aunt, Uncle and Grammy is a good time
and maybe my cousin (hint Lindzee)

I've been watching flights for awhile and finally
booked one for a pretty good price.
The prob?
My Gram is about 2 hours north of SLC
so someone would have to drive 8 hours r/t to get me to and fro...
Terrible, right?
Solution!

One of the many perks of my job is
enrollment in Employeediscountclub.com
There aren't too many things I would actually use on there
but I remembered they had one for Avis!

I logged on, checked it out and gave them a call.
I got a fabulously low rate and on top of that
3rd day free
on to of that
$25 off!!
I am under 25 so most places charge and extra $15 to $25 per day
on top of all the other bogus fees.
But not with a "corporate rental."
So I scored BIG time (less than a hundo) and everyone gets to
spend more time together!!

Thanks Anaheim Regional!

Utah, here I come!

Peanut Butter Brownies

I love this blog... I'm convinced that each time I visit it, I gain at least 5 pounds.  When I saw these brownies I knew I wanted to make them, so I did and I took them to work.  I found that my job is really good for my baking desires because I can bake the most fattening delicious treats, leave a few for my mom and I then pass the rest off.  Here's the scoop!

Brownie:
One box brownie mix.  I used the Betty Crocker Original Supreme type.  Mix and bake as directed.

Peanut Butter Filling:
Two cups powered sugar.
One stick softened butter
3/4 cup creamy peanut butter
2 teaspoons milk (I used 3)
Mix in a medium bowl with electric mixer until smooth.  Once brownies are cool spread filling over the top.  I used my hands, it was way easier than using the spatula.  (Wash them first though, yo.)

Chocolate topping:
One cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 stick butter
Combine in a microwave safe bowl and microwave at 30 second intervals, stirring in between, until melted.  Smooth over the top.

Put in the refrigerator to allow the chocolate to firm, remove about 20 min prior  to serving.

Enjoy!

Sneak Peak

I'm revamping my room.  It's taking me a LONG time.  I'm lazy.  This is some pretty sweet fabric that I'm including in some secret way.

Buzz

A few years ago I was introduced to a website, Buzzagent.  It is a website where you can sign up to be on different Marketing campaigns and they send you a kit.  You use, try, taste or whatever, the item and pass on to other people the product, or tell them about what you have tried.  Simple.  This is one that I just signed up for and received in the mail today.  Did I mention that this is a free site?

Halloween Twenty-11

I spent Halloween this year in the Bay Area.
One of thee BFFs, Jennie,
is a born and raised San Fransiscian?  But more specifically from
Oh, sounds familiar? That's because it's the home of Apple.
Anyways, we got there in the AM and went to a mall by Stanford University.
Lot's of rich people, everywhere.
I got my makeup done at MAC and then we headed to check into our hotel.
On our way there we got side tracked by Panera, it's easier than you think,
and Target.
We stayed at The Cypress Hotel and it was RUHeal nice.
After Jennie and I got dressed in our non-Halloween clothes we went to pickup some ladies.

I ended up doing Sheena and Claires makeup and Sheena's hair
and we had a lot of fun in the process,
but I'm not giving any details.

We headed out to dinner at The Elephant Bar
and then went to thee party.
Fun was had by all, I promise.

Until next year,

Oreo Truffles

This recipe is to die and everyone who has had ten one of my treats falls in love.  Seriously, can't stop eating them.  So here is the scoop.

-Oreos, any flavor, even mint.
-Cream Cheese, one 8oz box
-Melting chocolate, I prefer the kind you buy at Michaels
(this chocolate was from Target and I was disappointed by it)
-Sprinkles (if you want.)

Take the cookies apart and put in a food processor
(use the whole package)

Place the crumbs in a bowl

Soften the Cream Cheese and mix well with crumbs.
I use my hands, after I wash them of course!

Roll in to balls.
Place in the freezer for 30 minutes.

Melt chocolate as directed and dip.
I just drop the ball in a use a spoon to move it around until it is covered and then
use the same spoon to take it out of the chocolate.
Sprinkle some sprinkles on top, they will only stick if you
put it on before the chocolate drys.

Try it, you'll like it.

Pintrest+Polyvore

I'm into Pinterest.  If you don't know about it, figure it out.  There is a website I found on Pin called Polyvore and it's a site where people put together cute outfits, really cute outfits.  Only problem, most of them are like $1000.  Who can spend that on ONE outfit.  Not I.  So I found inspiration on there and put together my own fall outfit on my budget! (a realistic budget)  Drum roll please!!

Starting from the top.

For my hair, I curled it and used the Messy Bun Tutorial
My top is from Tillys and it was about $24.
My tan lacy undershirt is from Abercrombie and it was $18
My necklace is from Forever 21 and it was like $5.00
My pants are from Nordstrom Rack for $24
Thee boots, oh yes, they are from Urbanog.com and they were $26 and I found a $5 off coupon!

These are all items, besides the boots, that I already had. Pretty cute huh?

Candy Corn Cupcakes

I saw a them on one of my favorite blogs and when they announced at work that we would have a potluck for Halloween I knew it would be the perfect time to bake them.

They were really simple to do.  You buy a white cake mix and follow the standard baking directions.  Then split the batter in half and dye one yellow and one orange, to your desired color shade.  Fill each cupcake liner 1/3 yellow and 1/3 orange.  I did all the yellow first and then all the orange.  Pop them in the oven.

Now for me, I like my cupcakes to not look like muffins, you know, kind of flat... so I saw on pinterest how to make them rise!  Start your oven at 350, right when you put the cupcakes in, reduce the temp to 325 and bake for about 26 min.  It really did work for me.

When they are done and cooled, frost.  I just used vanilla frosting from the can because I'm all about the simple stuff.  Top with festive Halloween sprinkles and one Candy Corn.  Ta Da!

Fall on my Fingertips

I have been looking for a good fall nail polish.
I feel like the "milky pink" was more summery, so when I saw this color
I couldn't help but to try it.

"You Don't Know Jacque"

Tried it.  Loved it. Bought it.

Only change stays the same

Bedroom?  We'll see!

Found this picture on this site.

Happy Anniversary

I knew it was sometime this month, towards the end, but that was about it.  You see, at my work they really "appreciate" their employees and our commitment.  When I went into work the other day I saw it.  There in my box was a little familiar card.

"Thank you for you two years of service.
Please enjoy 30% off on your next shopping spree at the gift shop."
Excludes Magazines, candy, soda, balloons, flowers and books.

Soooo, what do you buy?  Nothing I guess.

Anyways.

So after I finished reading this stupid lovely card I got to thinking.  What was I doing two years ago?  This is what I thought back on.

  • I was 21 (whoa!)
  • Not only was I starting this job at the hospital, I also was working at Maries & Bobs Big Boy... yep, 3 jobs.  (It didn't last long, don't worry.)
  • I was pretty sure that I wasn't going to ever get a job for what I paid a shit crap load of money for and it was super depressing.
  • I had no plans for my life.
And worst of all....
  • I was dating this guy

Fast forward...
  • I'm about to turn 24.
  • I work ONE job, no need for 3 and it even comes with AWESOME health insurance (adult much? yep)
  • I was able to meet the right people and get transfered to the job that I went to school for and didn't have to work more than one job since my new job pays me more in ONE check than all 3 jobs did in one month.
  • I have a plan for my life, at least a two year plan.
  • I'm not "dating" any ONE person... had my heart totally broken (^) so now I'm all about being a player and dating hella hecka guys at one time ;)

  • Finish buying my tires.  I already bought two, now I need two more.
  • Spend quality time with my sisters.
  • Have my savings goal met.
  • Read a book about Christ.  The season tis coming.
  • Find somesort of routine for my week.  Needs to include working out.
  • Make a fun craft.
  • Try a new recipie. From this blog.
  • Volunteer somewhere in the community.
  • Go Skiing
  • Make my 2012 financial goals
  • Be a better friend
So there we have it.  Let's see if I can at least get half of these things done?  Maybe...

Thee Perfect Combo

I did it on impulse.  Cut my hair that is.
In July of 2010 I cut my hair super short and very quickly regretted it.
But mostly blamed my hair girl...
She should have known better.

Sometime around January I heard from someone,
somewhere
that crushing up birth control and putting it in your shampoo
makes your hair grow.

I just so happened to have some laying around that I wasn't using
because of a switch...
and so I did just that.

Now, I have to say that I think it is true.
My hair is long.
Not the length I want because that would be as long as
Mrs. Kim Kardashian Humphries
But it is getting there.

So basically you should give it a try.
But I don't recommend it if you actually need
The birth control for like you know...
Birth Control?

Thee Job

There are lots of days where I wish my job was more like Grey's Anatomy.  I mean who wouldn't?  Those Surgeons are dreamboats and they are always so nice to the scrubs!  Then I wake up.  My job may not be McHotties and McDreamys but at the end of the day I feel so lucky to work in such a fufilling field.  I would be lying if I said that everyday was wonderful... there are days when I don't know why I chose this or days when I would just LOVE to slap a Surgeon because I can't take them yelling at me for one more second but every.single.day I get the chance to make a life or death difference in someones life and it makes me feel good.

Also... the doctors may not be gorgeous but let me tell you... some of the reps I see... HELLO!
